Board of Deacons

The office of Deacon, as set forth in scripture, is one of sympathy, witness and service. Deacons play a vital service role in the both the day-to-day operation and spiritual life of the Church. At CPC, Deacons have the opportunity to serve and minister within the congregation in many and varied ways.

Coffee ServiceBig Group

To help build fellowship within the congregation, Deacons organize groups of congregation volunteers to serve weekly coffee between services in Fellowship Hall.

Communion

In celebration of the Sacrament, Deacons and Elders support each month’s Communion Sunday (first Sunday of each month). Deacons and Elders serve Communion on a rotating schedule. Deacons are also responsible for setting up Communion on the preceding Saturday afternoon.

Concern and Outreach

As ministers to the congregation, Deacons offer prayer and service (outreach, correspondence, transportation, etc.).   Contact Pastor Beth for names of those who might need services or prayer. Deacons also organize Charlotte’s Closet, which provides gently used, donated items to various organizations.

Congregational Life

Deacons organize a number of key fellowship activities throughout the year: Church Ice Cream Social, Picnic, Progressive Dinner, and Mardi Gras Party. In addition, important service/mission activities each year: Thanksgiving Dinner for people in need, Mission Rummage Sale. Deacons typically support one or more of these events by chairing/planning an event or providing “on the ground” support during the event.

Ushering

In support of Worship, Deacons organize groups of congregation volunteers to provide ushering service each week.

J.O.Y. (Jesus Outreach To You)

Deacons will serve of Holy Communion (2-3x per year) at home with members and friends for whom attending worship is difficult or  impossible. Deacons will share the love of God through the joy of flowers. The flowers on our communion table and under the cross, generously donated each week by various church members, will be passed out to those that may be in need of a smile, support, fellowship, celebration or our condolences.
