Ed Burton, Director of Youth and Family Ministry

Ed Burton

Ed oversees the youth programs of the church and is particularly responsible for Post-Disciples cubes (small groups for sophomores, juniors and seniors in high school) and Westminster Fellowship, social and service activities for all high school students and their families, and leads the high school group on summer mission caravans. He keeps in touch with recent college graduates via a monthly letter and an annual open house over the Christmas holiday break.  Ed also is co-director of the Wednesday after-school LOGOS program, leads the middle school portion of LOGOS, oversees 7th and 8th grade Sunday School and works with the Christian Education – Youth Committee.

Ed has over 13 years ministry experience working with children, youth and family ministry and is passionate about ministry and faith formation of middle school and high school youth. He is energetic, creative and dedicated to being part of a team that offers excellence in ministry. He is committed to walking with youth on their faith journey and encouraging them to deepen their faith in God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. He professes a holistic approach to youth ministry that must include the entire family, sharing, “I would not serve students well if I didn’t understand parents and families.” He will partner with parents to ensure they are inspired and equipped to be the primary teacher of a life of faith for their youth.

Ed graduated from Wheaton College with a Bachelors of Communication (major) and Psychology (minor). Ed and his wife Courtney live in Clarendon Hills with their two children, Landon and Keira.  They have a dog named Willy and two cats – Funny and Queenie. His family loves super hero movies, places like Wisconsin Dells, going on adventures and long walks, and board games.

Ed’s Thoughts on Ministry:

“One of my favorite images for a believer is the image of us having life WITH God. Understanding our new identity and the new creation we are because of Jesus is central to how I understand and share the gospel. We’re adopted, we’re welcomed, we’re forgiven once and for all, we’re God’s beloved masterpiece, and we’re worth the life of God’s one and only son. Knowing God and having life WITH him is the center of the mark.”
