Mission

Local

Community Presbyterian Church financially supports the national and worldwide missions of the Presbyterian Church (USA). It also supports many agencies in the Chicago area, with a focus on housing and homelessness, children, and hunger. Many "hands-on" outreach opportunities are available. Among these are:

Charlotte's Closet
Charlotte's Closet is a mission of Presbyterian Women. Congregation members are invited to donate gently used clothing and household items to the closet, which is located in the north hallway of the lower level. Volunteers meet every other Monday to sort the donations, which are used by Association House. For more information, contact Flo Muir @ (630) 986-5552 or Rev. Dean Lindsey.

Food For Life
Volunteers deliver food on the second Tuesday of the month to feed clients at the First Presbyterian Church of Chicago Soup Kitchen. Food is prepared the evening prior to delivery at 6:00 p.m. in the kitchen at CPC. For more information, contact Vicki Schranz @ (630) 325-3618 or Rev. Dean Lindsey.

Greater Chicago Food Depository
Approximately four times a year volunteers from CPC work a shift as food sorters at the Greater Chicago Food Depository (www.chicagosfoodbank.org). In addition to assisting in the work of the Food Depository, our efforts earn food credits for the pantry at First Presbyterian Church of Chicago. Look for announcements of our service dates in the bulletin and the Press. We welcome all volunteers. For more information, contact Laura Folliard @ (630) 734-3295 or Rev. Dean Lindsey.

Hinsdale Community Service
Non-perishable food donations are collected the second Sunday of the month through our MEAL-A-MONTH program. Grocery bags are available after services the first Sunday of the month to be filled and returned the next week.

Mission Sewing
Mission Sewing meets most Thursday mornings at 9:00 a.m. in Room 8 to make quilts to send to mission agencies. For more information, contact Jane Hennig @ (630) 654-0914 or Rev. Dean Lindsey.

PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter)
CPC operates a shelter for the homeless from 7:00 p.m. Saturday to 7:00 a.m. Sunday, October through April. Volunteers from our church staff the program on the second Saturday night each month. Other Saturdays are staffed by volunteers from neighboring churches. If you would like to volunteer, contact Bill Vickery @ (630) 455-0948 or Rev. Dean Lindsey.

For more information regarding financial support and volunteer opportunities in mission, contact Rev. Dean Lindsey.
