HOLY WEEK AT CPC

Maundy Thursday
March 20
7:30 p.m.

Youth

After supper Jesus took bread and wine and gave them to his friends, saying, “Take and eat, this is my body broken for you; take and drink, this is my blood of the new covenant, shed for the forgiveness of your sins.”
As we begin the Triduum, the three days from sunset Thursday to sunset Easter Day, we start together at the table of our Lord, trusting that every time we share this bread and cup, we share in his love for us still.
Please join us as we remember that night and celebrate the Lord’s Supper once again.

We will meet at 6:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall for a potluck supper before the service.

GOOD FRIDAY TENEBRAE
March 21
7:30 p.m.

Youth

Good Friday, the day of Jesus’ crucifixion, marks one of the holiest of days.

To commemorate Jesus’ death, we solemnly approach the cross through the ancient drama of the Service of Tenebrae, or “shadows.”
We read the story of the Passion (“suffering”) of Jesus; we remember the power of darkness and evil by extinguishing all light; and we confront the depth of our own sins by stripping the chancel and ending the service in utter silence.

In readings and music, we are invited to come to the foot of the cross, and understand our own participation in Christ’s suffering, which accomplished the forgiveness of our sins, and the redemption of the world.

EASTER SUNRISE
Sunday, March 23
6:30 a.m.

Famine

Early on the first day of the week, the women followers of Jesus went to his tomb, Scripture tells us, and when Mary lingered in the garden, it was there she met her risen Lord.

Our Sunrise Service recalls that first Easter morning, as we join the disciples of all ages in the wondrous mystery of the resurrection.

Join us in the Garden for our brief (half hour) worship, and then enjoy fellowship together as we share a light breakfast in the parlor.

(The service will be held indoors in the Chapel in case of inclement weather.)

EASTER SUNDAY
Festival of the Resurrection
March 23
8:00, 9:30, 11:00 a.m.

Famine

Easter is the highest Festival Day
in the Christian calendar:
the celebration of Christ’s victory
of life over death,
hope over sorrow,
love over hate.
All the best of our worship—
the brass, the choir, and the lilies—
cannot begin to express the joy of this day: Christ is risen!
He is risen indeed!
