Youth Programs

Disciples retreat September 2015 at Great Oaks Camp.

For nearly 40 years Community Presbyterian Church has offered the Disciples program for high school freshmen.  Students meet with leaders in “cubes”small discussion groupsfor study, discussion and activities that assist them to explore their spirituality, values, and relationships with others and with God as they prepare for Confirmation.  As agreed by everyone who has been in the Disciples program, this is the most meaningful and fun years of our high school programs.  Youth who are not members of the church are also welcome to join in the program. Disciples meet on Sunday evenings from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and have dinner together with Post-Disciples. Two retreats away from the church and a one-day retreat with Disciples’ parents are part of the program.

The study and fellowship continues for sophomores, juniors and seniors in the style of the Disciples’ program, meeting in “cubes” from 5:00 to 7:00  on Sunday evenings. In Post Disciples, students get a chance to explore their faith and what being a Christian means for interacting with the world.  Cube time continues to be a safe place to explore and discuss issues without being judged.  Two retreat trips are scheduled each year.

Westminster Fellowship
“WF” is all about fun and Christian service. Open to all high school students, the WF program generally meets on Sunday evening after Disciples and Post-Disciples. Students may participate regularly or occasionally. Come join us for one of these activities; Road rally, Dodge ball, Summer work mission trips, Rake-n-run, Spaghetti dinner fundraiser, 30 Hour Famine, Whirly ball, Gutter sundaes “eating ice cream out of  a gutter.”

Summer Mission Caravans

Youth and their adult advisers have been participating in annual summer Mission Caravans for generations at CPC. In recent summers, Caravans worked on construction and rehab of homes in West Virginia and Virginia, as well as volunteering with special-needs children at Camp Courageous in Iowa.

Mission Caravan places and dates for 2018 are:

West Virginia, June 9-16, and Virginia, July 14-21,  are “work” caravans, where they will be working on construction and rehab of homes.

Camp Courageous of Iowa, #1, July 1-7  and #2,  August 5-11, where they volunteer at a camp for special-needs kids.

How Can You Help??

Prayer Partners:  As 85 youth and 20 adults prepare to go on CPC’s 2018 Youth Mission Caravans you have the opportunity to “go with” them in prayer.  For information on being a prayer partner, contact the church office.

Youth Group Fundraisers:   Each year caravan participants pay to go on caravans, but that doesn’t cover the entire cost.  The Youth Group does fundraising to make up the difference.

College Ministry

A monthly newsletter and a winter retreat or open house during school break help keep college students connected.  Check out the CPC Youth Alumni Facebook Page for current events geared to the 18-25 yr old age group.
